We had a feeling this SOB would try to readvertise this vessel here after almost snagging one victim a week ago.
A person called on this boat when it was first advertised at $10,000. The seller blatantly misrepresented about the condition. The buyer sent him a $500 deposit for an agreed price of $5000, then flew in to Homer a week later to pay it off. The vessel was found to be rotten in almost every way, in almost every area. There is hardly an inch of usable caulking left in the entire boat. Planks are sprung. THE KEEL IS BROKEN. The engines are piles of rust. Nearly every bulkhead is so rotted you can push through them with your thumb (you can see straight through them!). The seller immediately lowered the price to $3500 (which is what he paid for it when the vessel was seized for back storage), trying to get this buyer to bite, but the boat was not even worth the $500 deposit. The seller kept that deposit. This is a case, in my view, that should qualify for criminal prosecution of the seller. I hope the buyer files such a complaint. This is an outrageous case of misrepresentation. It simply doesn't get any worse. The cost to barge it to Seattle is even misrepresented. The lowest quote was $6800, and that was from ANCHORAGE to Seattle, and ONLY in the summer. Associated fees were about $2000 additional. The boat would probably never survive being picked up by the lift again, let alone being trucked, railed or towed 200 miles to Anchorage. Again, this one is absolutely over the freaking top. This is, in my view, an absolute scam. I'll do everything I can to urge the buyer to file charges of misrepresentation against this seller. Even Alaska has laws. The seller claims he cannot find a shipwright in Alaska familiar with wood. That statement alone should clue you in to the mental state of this seller. Absolutely outrageous. Maybe this guy thinks he can keep suckering people out of $500 non-refundable deposits and actually make a living schlepping this thing over and over. Really offensive. ALASKA: America's own Third World Country. There does seem to be a preponderance of this hillbilly mentality up there.
Here's his original Craigslist ad, in case he modifies it after seeing this:
This Constellation sold for $78,000 when brought to Alaska in 1996. The good picture was taken in 2006 before hauled for transom replacement. Good running 6-71 Detroits, she has every option for 1955 including the extended hardtop. Three marine radios, depth sounder. new shore power and gen set wiring in 2006.
Two surveyors / inspectors have taken a close look at her, the oak frames are solid, the planking is solid. She needs 3 transom boards badly, sheerstrake boards, and window frames in the main salon and aft cabin. The extended hardtop needs new plywood and canvas, the frame is good. All the original pieces are there, nothing stolen. Original spotlights, complete railing, emblems. Original 1955 price list included in the paperwork - she was $64,000 new .
I cannot find a shipwright in Alaska familiar with wood, we have found only cabinet makers with no marine experience. I am willing to pay to bring the right person to alaska to work for the winter or the summer as you wish, or you can just buy it from me. If you are capable and willing to do the work I would need the transom replaced, 7 upper hull planks replaced (frames are solid) and several boards refastened so I could run her up from Homer to Anchorage where I could bring her inside to spend a winter making everything shine.
The motors are worth much more than my asking price - and she has $5k worth of original Chris craft hardware if you bought it then gave up, but this one is worth saving (907) 350 9493
The yard where it is stored is not familiar with wooden boats or wooden boat repair, it should be moved. Northland Marine said $4500 to $6500 to get her to seattle. This is the one worth the big money when done.
For Sale, but please also respond if you are a seattle yard or shipwright willing to take on the work.
Immediately after our Craigslist posting this seller removed his ad and replaced it with the following, which STILL doesn't disclose the truth about this vessel:
"needs transom, sheerstrake. Oak frames are in great shape. nice running 671s, 3 radios, sounder. The nice pic is 2006."
