We’re writing from Seattle, Washington. Please consider this a formal complaint of harassment by one of your local residents.
A couple of weeks ago we received an Internet order for a roll of custom gift-wrap from one:
Stephanie Forlingieri
We printed and shipped the order a day or two later. Trying to be “nice” we had printed two rolls instead of one. Also trying to be “nice” we shipped the roll by Global Express at our expense, instead of the usual Global Priority.
A few days later we received a snippety email from Ms. Forlingieri stating that her paper was incorrectly manufactured. In point of fact she was quite right – we had used the wrong image and we instantaneously corrected the oversight. Unfortunately, Ms. Forlingieri’s well justified complaint didn’t end there. She continued on to berate us for the price of the item and for several other things (price of shipping to Canada, etc.). Her tone was condescending and insulting, and instantly ticked us off. Still, we HAD made a mistake, and it was inexcusable. Within 30 minutes of receiving Forlingieri’s complaint we manufactured and shipped a whole new roll, and she was provided a new tracking number for the shipment. We also refunded her entire purchase price.
Forlingieri immediately replied back without so much as a thank you for having corrected the misprint, or for refunding her entire purchase price including shipping, and again launched into a tirade of insults. Having just printed and shipped her new product AND refunded her money we were put off to say the least. We finally decided we'd had enough and we fired back our own nasty-gram advising this broad to shove it up her proverbial ass and to never contact us again under pain of a criminal complaint. In retrospect we regret that comment – we regret not making it MORE plain and succinct.
Of course she did contact us again with more insults, and again, and again. She was told yet again to cease and desist contacting us, that we considered her contact unwanted and a form of harassment. After all, she had been refunded, AND been shipped a new roll! We had no further business to discuss with her. But when she continued to leave nasty messages we informed her that we were contacting the police at that time. She responded to THAT telling us to go ahead – essentially saying that she couldn’t be stopped by us, or by any law enforcement agency either. We finally were forced to shut off access to our website for most of your region. That seems to have stopped her – so far. We have absolutely no doubt we will continue to hear from this woman at a later date. Therefore we need to document this case and ask formally for relief, so as to build a case that will ultimately convince this woman that she is not above the law.
Fortunately we were able to retrieve her replacement product from our postal drop station, so she will not be receiving that. Contrary to what this spoiled brat seems to think, people and businesses really DO have a right to be left alone, especially when it has been requested repeatedly and the harasser acknowledges receipt of that demand but taunts the victim even further.
We could easily obtain a restraining order against the woman in Seattle. But when (not “if”, but when) she ignores it, our system has no authority to penalize or incarcerate one of your residents. We must therefore route this through the local Canadian authorities.
We run across a customer this bad about once every three years. We won’t tolerate it in any case or context.
This will serve as our documented attempt to resolve this situation legally. We hope it is fruitful.
Thank you,

UPDATE: We received another communication from this woman advising that she was filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. If we receive it, it will be passed, unread, to the RCMP as well. Our new policy is to never ship more than is paid for, to never upgrade shipping at our expense, and to only provide replacements in case of a misprint. At the first hint of viciousness the customer will be disconnected from us in every way.

We believe we now have enough evidence for a formal criminal charge of International Internet harassment. Anything further you can send will strengthen that case.
